Bidding War! 960 5th Avenue NYC Penthouse co-op sold for $70m

Reports are that the late billionaire Bronfman’s Duplex 5th Ave Penthouse is in contract for $70m or $5m over the  $65m asking price due to a bidding war. The 960 Fifth Avenue Penthouse would be the most expensive co-op sold in NYC. At approx 6,200+ square feet of interior space, the purchase comes in at a jaw dropping $11,290/square foot for UNRENOVATED SPACE! Add to that $19,000 in monthly maint and taxes.

Despite the Penthouse being in very dated condition, the penthouse is considered trophy property not just due to the address – the 16 room space (5 bedrooms, 4 Staff, Library, Dining, Living and baths), direct unobstructed central park views and 360* wrap terrace exposure was something that most new construction cannot provide.

The NYPost is reporting that the buyer might just be Wal Mart heiress Alice Walton. There was definitely no price roll back here! We think it’s a bit unlikely given that the Waltons are low key and would shy away from a trophy record setting apartment purchase. Our bet is on the petro dollar billionaires. We will know soon enough…stay tuned.
